- Schnieder believes that the process of reforming local elections requires attention.

Designated CDU chief in Rhineland-Palatinate, Gordon Schnieder, rules out a city administration revamp. During a gathering with Interior Minister Michael Ebling (SPD) and all democratic state parliament groups early this year, he declared that the reform would not progress any further, mentioning this in an interview with the German Press Agency in Mainz.

At 49, a resident of Eifel, Schnieder serves as the party's parliamentary group leader and maintains his role as general secretary. The CDU anticipates nominating him as the primary contender for the 2026 state election.

Should municipalities opt for collaboration voluntarily, even smaller towns, the CDU would support such moves. Schnieder underscored their agreement with the state government, affirming that "there will be no city administration revamp from Mainz." Instead, their focus lies in amplifying cooperation between municipalities.

Green faction leader advocates for administrative reform - Schweitzer opposes

Lately, the leader of the Green state parliament faction, Pia Schellhammer, has advocated for a revamp of the fragmented municipal administrative structures in Rhineland-Palatinate. In an interview with dpa in mid-July, she suggested enhancing citizen-friendliness, digitalization, and efficiency within offices. "By adjusting territorial structures to present-day circumstances and challenges, we can drive the development towards a more contemporary and efficient administration."

On the other hand, the newly appointed Minister-President, Alexander Schweitzer, sees no necessity for a city administration revamp in Rhineland-Palatinate. "I think we're on the right track," said the SPD politician to dpa in Mainz. The emphasis should be on fostering cooperation between municipalities. "There's still untapped potential there which we haven't explored fully yet."

I'm not sure if a city administration revamp is necessary, considering the focus on cooperation between municipalities.

Despite the advocacy for administrative reform by the Green faction leader, Schnieder, as the CDU chief, rules out any city administration revamp from Mainz.
