Social affairs - Schleswig-Holstein wants the federal states to have a say in EU social funds

Schleswig-Holstein wants the federal states to have a say in the design of the EU Social Climate Fund. Social Affairs Minister Aminata Touré submitted a motion with a corresponding request to the federal government at the conference of the federal states' employment and social affairs ministers in Berlin on Thursday, the Ministry of Social Affairs announced. The states are to be given resources from the fund for local measures. The motion was passed unanimously.

"We must do everything we can to make our society climate-friendly and climate-neutral. At the same time, we must not forget the associated social impact on people," said Touré. Climate protection measures must be designed in a socially just way and the burden on low-income households and micro-enterprises in particular must be cushioned. "This is crucial for acceptance and social cohesion in society."

According to the information, the European Union wants to finance a social climate fund from 2026 to 2032 from revenues from the new emissions trading scheme for buildings and road transport. Around 86 billion euros are expected to be available.
