Schleswig-Holstein takes in 2330 refugees in October
Schleswig-Holstein took in 2330 refugees in October. This is the highest monthly figure so far this year, according to the monthly report published by the State Office for Immigration on Friday. 621 people seeking protection came from Ukraine. The most common countries of origin for the remaining asylum seekers were Syria (627), Turkey (433) and Afghanistan (254). In September, the northernmost federal state took in 1597 refugees.
"The current figures show how dramatic the international refugee movement is," said Integration Minister Aminata Touré. She described the situation in the state's initial reception facilities as stable.
According to the information, the state currently provides 7800 places in the initial reception facilities and state accommodation at the six locations of Neumünster, Bad Segeberg, Rendsburg, Glückstadt, Seeth and Boostedt. Around 5800 of these places are currently occupied. The capacity is to be expanded to 10,000 places in several stages. On November 20, another state accommodation facility in Kiel will go into operation. "We expect Schleswig-Holstein to take in around 17,000 refugees in 2023," said Touré. By the end of October, the figure was around 13,000.
The ongoing refugee crisis, as evident from the high numbers, has prompted significant migration to Schleswig-Holstein. With the state aiming to provide accommodation for 10,000 refugees in the coming stages, the trend of migration is expected to continue.
