Exhibitions - Schinkel's Baumeister is also desired as a toy figure
He is like the writer Theodor Fontane, a famous son of the north Brandenburg city Neuruppin: Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841). This Prussian architect is long admired not only in architectural circles for his landmark buildings. Schinkel now finds his way into children's rooms and collector's cabinets: He is available as a special edition Playmobil figure. There are 25,000 pieces of this. Fontane was also created as a toy in 2018.
A spokesperson for the dpa in Potsdam said that the special Schinkel figure was formally taken from Neuruppin's hands. More than 4,000 pieces have already been sold. The special figure is simply a fantastic ambassador for the city and its famous son Schinkel, said Neuruppin's mayor Nico Ruhle (SPD).
Playmobil exhibition with many guests
The city has been showing a Playmobil exhibition on the theme "Building History(ies)" in Neuruppin's Cultural Church since July 20. Over 2,000 visitors have seen the artist Oliver Schaffer's show so far. Guests came from all over Germany, and collectors even came from Spain specifically. The city expects up to 10,000 more visitors by the end of the exhibition on September 8. The Hamburg artist Schaffer has already created numerous works from countless Playmobil figures - from the Amazonas rainforest to a medieval monastery.
City: Mini-Schinkel could be a collector's item
The city is convinced that the Mini-Schinkel will develop into a real collector's item. The figure wears a brown compass and a tablet with the floor plan of the Schauspielhaus am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin, which Schinkel built. Neuruppin is the birthplace of the significant architect of the 19th century. He also created the Nikolaikirche in Potsdam and the Alte Museum in Berlin-Mitte.
