- Schalke legend Abramczik is skeptical about the subject of ascension
Former Schalke pro Rüdiger Abramczik has criticized personnel decisions of the Royal Blues in recent years. In an interview with Sport1 alongside club legend Klaus Fischer, the 68-year-old said on the question of whether they were surprised that fan favorites Mike Büskens and Gerald Asamoah were no longer there: "I always find it a shame when former players are sent away."
In recent years, many coaches at FC Schalke 04 have brought their entire staff and players with them. "We from the 70s generation were never asked. Foreign people were always brought in who didn't know the club at all," said Abramczik.
"It will be much harder to promote"
Büskens and Asamoah were "the last guys" who were deeply rooted at FC Schalke 04. "I'm sorry they're gone," said Abramczik. "There's no real Schalker left, and that hurts a bit."
The club had already parted ways with the two as part of a rebuilding process a few weeks ago. Büskens had been working as a co-trainer, Asamoah as head of licensed players.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season in the second league, Abramczik said that the whole of Schalke is longing for the Bundesliga, from which the Gelsenkirchen-based team had already been relegated after just one season in the summer of 2023. However, given the strong and well-known competition in the coming season, the ex-pro also emphasized: "It will be much harder to promote than in the last round. I don't think the current Schalke team can promote."
"Despite the rebuilding process, many fans still hold a special place for players like Mike Buskens and Gerald Asamoah, who had roles at FC Schalke 04 as a co-trainer and head of licensed players respectively.,"
"Several years ago, Gerald Asamoah, formerly an influential figure at FC Schalke 04, left the club, joining a long list of players and personnel who were not from the club's roots, as mentioned by former pro Rüdiger Abramczik."
