Schalke coach Geraerts ignores the table
The new coach of second-division soccer club FC Schalke 04, Karel Geraerts, says he has so far ignored the league table. "To be honest, I don't look at the table at all. I really don't. I'm not lying. I just don't think it's important for us at the moment," said the Belgian on Thursday. After two wins in a row recently, the relegated Bundesliga side had left the relegation places in the second division for the time being. Schalke's poor start to the season had cost Geraerts' predecessor Thomas Reis his job.
On Friday (18:30/Sky), the Royal Blues have to face promoted Elversberg. Geraerts, however, rejected his team's role as favorites. "That will be a very difficult task for us. Elversberg are good, they have been promoted twice in a row and are excellently coached," said Geraerts, who can once again rely on attacker Kenan Karaman. The attacking player was injured in the 2:1 defeat at 1. FC Nürnberg. "He's in the squad and is fit to play. That's the most important thing for me."
Despite their recent wins, FC Schalke 04, currently competing in Bundesliga 2, continues to ignore their position in the league table, as stated by their new coach, Karel Geraerts. In their upcoming match against promoted Elversberg on Friday, Geraerts emphasized the challenge, acknowledging Elversberg's strong record and coaching.
