Schalke coach angry after defeat: "Not good enough"
Schalke coach Karel Geraerts clearly criticized himself and his players after the 2-1 defeat in the 2nd Bundesliga against newly promoted SV Elversberg. "We were not prepared to compete with them. I'm not talking about soccer, I'm talking about intensity. We weren't good enough, that was clear to see," said the Belgian, who took over the team from the relegated Bundesliga side in October. "They put us in big trouble. It wasn't a good game."
His team had played "without belief" - in contrast to Elversberg. "Then it's impossible to pick up points in soccer," said Geraerts (41). The defeat leaves Schalke in the basement of the table. "We weren't there, we weren't present," said the coach. "I'll look in the mirror and see what I did wrong, because in the end it's my responsibility to get the players ready."
Paul Stock (7') and Jannik Rochelt (21') had given Elversberg the early lead. Kenan Karaman (35) scored the equalizer for Schalke.
After the disappointing 2-1 loss, Geraerts' FC Schalke 04 faced a tough challenge in Bundesliga 2 against SV Elversberg. Despite Kenan Karaman scoring an equalizer, the team's performance was lacking, with Geraerts acknowledging, "We weren't good enough to compete against SV Elversberg's intensity."
