Parliament - Scandal surrounding AfD MPs: Female politicians verbally attacked
AfD MP Marcel Queckemeyer has admitted to having verbally attacked two female politicians from the Greens parliamentary group after receiving clear criticism in the Lower Saxony state parliament. According to Volker Bajus, Parliamentary Secretary of the Greens, Queckemeyer said on Tuesday in the state parliament foyer in the direction of MPs Eva Viehoff and Djenabou Diallo-Hartmann: "The Greens must be voted out of office. They need to be stomped on and then gone."
Queckemeyer said on Wednesday: "The term kicking is unparliamentary, and it suggests violence. I am truly sorry about that." He had been upset by what he perceived as unfair treatment of a colleague in his parliamentary group and had used the wrong words. "If any members of parliament felt offended or even threatened by this, then I would like to apologize."
The Greens subsequently stated that Queckemeyer's apology alone was not enough. "Threatening or intimidating other MPs is more than just an insult. It is an attack on the entire parliament," said Bajus. "The AfD parliamentary group has yet to answer how it will deal with Marcel Queckemeyer in the future and ensure that such derailments do not occur in the future. A criminal complaint is currently being examined by those affected and is in preparation."
Carina Hermann, Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU, described Queckemeyer's statements as transgressing criminal law. There were also witnesses from her parliamentary group.
Wiard Siebels from the SPD said that a red line had been crossed. "This is the precursor to assault," said Siebels. "You have torn the mask off your face." She added that it was also no coincidence that the black MP Diallo-Hartmann was affected. "Where racism and exclusion take place in the Lower Saxony parliament building, we intervene," emphasized Siebels.
The AfD MP Queckemeyer from the district of Osnabrück had already attracted attention during a session of the state parliament in September. On that occasion, he had to leave the chamber after being called to order three times by the presiding committee.

In response to the incident, politicians from Alliance 90/The Greens in the Lower Saxony state parliament are pushing for stronger actions against the AfD party, as this is not the first time an AfD MP has made headlines for controversial remarks. The scandal surrounding Queckemeyer's remarks has gained significant eclat, with many politicians calling for the AfD to take responsibility and address the issue within their party. The incident in Hanover's state parliament has highlighted the need for a more tolerant and respectful environment in political debates.
