Scam involving company representatives: Pensioner robbed of jewelry

A fake company representative has robbed an 83-year-old woman in Wismar of gold jewelry worth several thousand euros. The perpetrator posed as a representative of an electricity provider last Friday afternoon and gained access to the pensioner's apartment, police said on Monday. He then stole the jewelry in an unobserved moment. The pensioner only noticed the loss of the jewelry on Sunday.

In a second case in Schwerin, two men tried to take two 78 and 85-year-old women by surprise using the same scam. In this case, too, the perpetrators reportedly got into the apartment but, as far as is known so far, did not steal anything. After the incident, the women informed the police and warned neighbors.

Because of the scam, the police are calling on people to be suspicious of unannounced company representatives. Those affected should ask for a company ID and, in case of doubt, have the order confirmed by the company in question.

This scam has led to a significant loss for an elderly woman in Wismar, as a fake representative stole her valuable jewelry. To prevent such crimes, it's crucial for people to be skeptical of uninvited company representatives and verify their identities before letting them into their homes.
