Volleyball Bundesliga - SC Potsdam loses top match in tiebreak
SC Potsdam's volleyball players have started the second half of the Bundesliga season with a tie-break defeat. In the top match against Dresdner SC, coach Riccardo Boieri's team lost 2:3 (26:24, 17:25, 19:25, 26:24, 11:15) in front of 1342 spectators in their home MBS Arena on Saturday. The Brandenburg team had won the first leg in Dresden 3:0.
Just 43 hours after reaching the German Cup final with a 3-0 win in Vilsbiburg, Potsdam seemed to run out of steam against Dresden after a fortunately won first set. The Saxons, who had also played in the cup semi-final on Thursday and were eliminated, dominated the next two sets.
But at the end of the fourth set, Potsdam's diagonal attacker Danielle Harbin had her big performance. Dresden had three match points with a 24:21 lead. Harbin tied the score a little later with two aces in succession (24:24), and Suvi Kokkonen secured the Brandenburg team's place in the tie-break with her point to make it 26:24.
There, the former Potsdam player Hester Jasper put the DSC 7:4 in front. The SCP then chased after this deficit in vain. Jasper finally scored the 15th and final point.
