SC Magdeburg without Philipp Weber for an "indefinite period"

SC Magdeburg and the German national handball team will have to do without backcourt player Philipp Weber for an indefinite period of time. The club made the announcement on Wednesday on the sidelines of the IHF Super Globe in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The 31-year-old Weber came down awkwardly in the first group game after a jump shot without any outside influence and pushed his left knee outwards.

"We won't make a prognosis yet and are waiting for the examinations in Germany. He will definitely not be playing in Saudi Arabia," coach Bennet Wiegert was quoted as saying in the statement.

The handball Bundesliga club will also have to do without back Michael Damgaard for the time being, who is suffering from muscular problems. It is unclear whether he will be able to get playing time at the unofficial club world championship. Magdeburg will face Australian representative University of Queensland on Wednesday (2.45 pm/ handball-globe.tv) and can qualify for the semi-finals on Saturday with a win.

Despite the absence of Philipp Weber due to an indefinite injury, SC Magdeburg will continue its participation in the IHF Super Globe with a game against University of Queensland. Additionally, Michael Damgaard, another crucial backcourt player for Magdeburg, is currently out due to muscular problems, affecting their squad in the Bundesliga and the unofficial club world championship.
