Handball Bundesliga - SC Magdeburg overruns Lions in 38:24 home win

League leaders SC Magdeburg concluded the first half of the German Handball League with a clear victory and defended their top spot. After a partly one-sided game against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the Getec Arena, which was sold out with 6600 spectators, the score was 38:24 (16:13). Magdeburg's top scorer on Saturday was Felix Claar with eleven goals.

Magdeburg got off to an excellent start to the game. The SCM led by three goals after four minutes (4:1). The Lions failed to get into the game and Head Coach Sebastian Hintze called a second timeout early on (10:4/13). Magdeburg then lost its way somewhat and the Lions reduced the deficit from six goals to three (13:10/23).

SCM came out of half-time strongly and stretched the gap to six goals again early on (19:13/34), but the Lions came back again this time and reduced the deficit to three goals. However, the home side was less impressed this time and gradually extended its lead to nine goals (28:19/47).

The Lions tried their third goalkeeper in the game, but David Späth was also not able to fend off the SCM attacks decisively. The game was finally decided with the double strike to make it 34:23 (53') at the latest - SCM was superior to the Lions in every respect.
