SC Magdeburg beats Eisenach and is the new leader

SC Magdeburg took advantage of Füchse Berlin's slip-up in Kiel and are the new leaders in the German Handball League. In the eastern duel against ThSV Eisenach, SCM won 38:31 (24:16) in front of 6,600 spectators. Felix Claar was Magdeburg's top scorer with twelve goals, while Manuel Zehnder was the most successful for Eisenach with ten. Eisenach remain bottom of the table with 7:19 points.

Eisenach tried to keep Magdeburg away from the throwing zone with offensive cover, but was not able to maintain its initial lead for long. Both sides appeared nervous and the game remained close, as neither team was able to pull away. SCM coach Bennet Wiegert called for calm in a timeout and demanded that duels be won. SCM stepped up its game, particularly in attack, while Eisenach was no longer able to get a grip - and so the hosts led by a clear margin at the break.

SCM did not let up after the break either and increased its lead to ten goals early on thanks to the outstanding Claar (26:16/33). ThSV only rarely found gaps in Magdeburg's defense and then often failed to find Sergey Hernandez in the SCM goal. When Magdeburg then slackened a little, Eisenach was still able to shape the second half positively and gradually reduced the deficit to five goals (30:25/47). However, the visitors were never able to threaten Magdeburg's victory, although they "won" the second half by one goal.

SC Magdeburg's victory against Eisenach in the Bundesliga meant they surpassed Füchse Berlin to take the lead. Despite Eisenach's efforts to keep SC Magdeburg away from the throwing zone, Felix Claar scored twelve goals, helping Magdeburg secure a comfortable 38:31 win, which left Eisenach at the bottom of the table.
