SC Magdeburg aiming for a hat-trick of titles at the Club World Cup

SC Magdeburg are aiming for a hat-trick of titles at the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The Champions League winners are the defending champions at the 16th edition. Bennet Wiegert's team will face one of the host clubs in Group C this Tuesday: Al-Khaleej. The second group opponent is debutant University of Queensland. The matches will initially be played in four groups of three, with the winners of each group progressing directly to the semi-finals. The second and third-placed teams in the four groups will play each other in placement matches.

Some of the Magdeburg players will travel individually or in small groups from the national teams to the six-day tournament. Other participants include the Egyptians from Ahly SC, Al-Najma Club from Bahrain, San Francisco CalHeat, San Fernando HB from Argentina, Al-Noor as the other hosts and the European representatives Barlinek Industria Kielce, FC Barcelona and Füchse Berlin (both wildcards).

SC Magdeburg's handball team is set to compete in the Club World Cup, defending their title from previous years. Their Bundesliga success earned them a spot in this global tournament, where they'll face Al-Khaleej and debutant University of Queensland in Group C.
