SC Magdeburg: 34:28 at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten
SC Magdeburg has defended its lead at the top of the Handball Bundesliga table with its 17th win in a row in all competitions. The team from the city on the Elbe won 34:28 (16:15) at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten in a fiercely contested game on Sunday. Magdeburg's top scorer was Felix Claar with seven goals.
Without Michael Damgaard, who had injured his hip, SCM had to improvise at left back, with Claar playing this position most of the time. Magdeburg had a finishing problem at the start of the game and made too many technical mistakes, meaning it trailed by one goal. Head Coach Bennet Wiegert called his first timeout early on (3:6/11th) and Magdeburg then equalized (7:7/15th). Balingen eased off towards the end of the half and Magdeburg turned the game around.
After the break, SCM exploited mistakes by Balingen, who consistently played with a seventh court player, to take its first three-goal lead (20:17/35). Magdeburg had problems with being permanently short-handed and did not get the game under control for a long time. However, the SCM extended its lead slightly towards the end with individual strength and great cleverness.
Despite the absence of Michael Damgaard due to a hip injury, SC Magdeburg managed to secure a win in the Handball Bundesliga, defeating HBW Balingen-Weilstetten 34:28. Despite initial struggles and technical mistakes, Magdeburg's top scorer, Felix Claar, played a crucial role, especially when filling in at left back.
