SC DHfK Leipzig fights for a draw at Bergischer HC
The handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig still have to wait for their second away win in the Bundesliga. However, the team of Head Coach Runar Sigtryggsson at least secured a 31:31 (16:19) draw at Bergischer HC on Thursday evening. After four defeats in a row, it was the Leipzig club's first point against a fearsome opponent. With nine goals, Franz Semper was the best scorer for SC DHfK in front of 2,259 spectators, who remain in ninth place with 13:15 points.
Leipzig started at a high tempo and led 4:2 after five minutes. They made consistent use of their chances and initially also benefited from the fact that goalkeeper Domenico Ebner, who had shone with 20 saves in the 36:30 home win against TVB Stuttgart a week earlier, immediately got into the game. An open exchange of blows ensued, with the visitors proving very susceptible to fast breaks and trailing for the first time at 9:10 in the 15th minute. The BHC acted more resolutely overall and, after a 4:0 run to make it 16:12 (24'), took its highest lead to date.
The home side had the game under control up to 24:20 (38'), before Leipzig tied the scores at 24:24 (45') with four goals in succession. The BHC then found its rhythm again in offense, but Leipzig was not to be shaken off. The BHC held on to a 31:30 lead for five minutes in the tense final spell before Viggo Kristjansson equalized for Leipzig with 14 seconds remaining.
Despite the draw, SC DHfK Leipzig is still searching for their second away victory in the Bundesliga, having only one point against tough opponents like Bergischer HC. In the upcoming Bundesliga handball match, Leipzig's Handball team will aim to improve their position in the league, fighting to climb higher than their current ninth place, which they share with 13 points.
