The handball team from SC DHfK Leipzig came close but ultimately fell short in their final away match of the Bundesliga season. Under the guidance of coach Runar Sigtryggsson, the players lost to the reigning German champions THW Kiel by a hefty margin of 28-37 (16-15).

This defeat took place in front of 10,201 spectators, with Franz Semper of SC DHfK scoring an impressive seven goals, leaving his team with 31:35 points and an eighth-place spot in the rankings. Niclas Ekberg, on the other hand, stood out for Kiel with eleventh goals.

The Leipzigers began with confidence in Kiel, exhibiting excellent offensive play right from the start. As a result of this, the game turned into a fast-paced contest with alternating leads. In the second half of the first half, however, SC DHfK experienced a nearly seven-minute dry spell in their attack. This allowed Kiel to claim the lead at 10:8 (18th minute).

Quickly bouncing back, SC DHfK responded with four straight goals to make the score 12:10 (23rd). They maintained their narrow lead against the mistake-prone THW through the break.

However, the visitors' strong defensive unit continued to perform well in the second half. Until the score was 22:22 (39th), the two teams were evenly matched. But then, SC DHfK completely lost their rhythm and made numerous unforced errors, resulting in the THW overwhelming them with a devastating 7:1 run, making the score 29:23 (50th).

Even Sigtryggsson's two timeouts, which he called eight minutes apart, failed to turn the tide in their favor. Ultimately, the Kielers claimed the win until the final whistle blew.

To make matters worse, Sigtryggsson's team has only lost twice on the road this year.
