- Saxony's BSW aims to implement "regular governmental operations" following the election
After the recent state election, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) in Saxony is feeling hopeful about potential coalition negotiations. As BSW state chairman Jörg Scheibe pointed out, "You can see two quite jubilant reps from the BSW board here." They've managed to pull off an unprecedented feat that hasn't been seen before in this form. The BSW aims to now do "upright politics" in Saxony. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) managed to score a 11.8% from scratch, which means they'll likely hold some influence in the formation of the future government. No talks offer has been extended from the CDU thus far, according to Richter.
On Tuesday, they plan to convene with their 15 freshly elected future MPs to assess the election outcomes. Their goal is to "find the right candidates for our political approach" within the next few weeks. While there are some members without parliamentary experience, "but they're not lacking in life experience."
The result serves as a wake-up call for the federal government
Chairman Jörg Scheibe once again emphasized the need for alignment with their government partner for diplomatic negotiations during the Ukraine war. They aim to exert pressure on Berlin. Key topics in Saxony include establishing a coronavirus inquiry committee or streamlining bureaucracy in the economy to support small and medium-sized businesses.
Based on preliminary results, the CDU was once again the dominant force, securing 31.9% of the votes. The AfD came in second with 30.6%, while the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) pulled off an impressive 11.8%. The SPD received 7.3%, and the Greens earned 5.1%. The Left barely managed to secure a spot in the state parliament with 4.5%, thanks to having two direct mandates in Leipzig. Chairman Scheibe characterized the election results as a harsh reminder for the federal government.
Following their successful performance in the Election to the Landtag, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is eager to discuss potential coalition negotiations. In light of their impressive 11.8% share, the BSW is poised to hold some influence in the formation of the future government after the recent state election in Saxony.
