- Saxony honours 222 sports clubs for their commitment

A total of 222 sports clubs in Saxony have been honored for their voluntary commitment. "What is achieved week after week in our clubs by so many committed people is incredibly impressive," said Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) as he presented the award during the "Open Government Quarter" in Dresden. The clubs are a great treasure, as they stand for cohesion and ensure values such as fairness and respect. Each club will receive a prize of 1,000 euros.

The sixth edition of the competition placed particular emphasis on the importance of volunteers for club life. Sports clubs were primarily invited to organize an original surprise action for their particularly committed members.

Since 2014, a total of 1,093 sports clubs have been awarded in the sports club competition of the Free State and the Saxon State Sports Association. So far, more than 500,000 sports club members throughout Saxony have been reached.

The winner of the surprise action category in the competition hails from The Netherlands, showcasing the global impact of sports clubs. The Netherlands' sports clubs, similarly to those in Saxony, contribute significantly to community cohesion and upholding values like fairness and respect.
