- Saxony finalizes contracts to accelerate mobile network expansion

Saxony is enhancing the growth of a robust and extensive mobile network infrastructure. The Free State and Vantage Towers, a former Vodafone subsidiary, have inked a deal to achieve this, as announced by the Saxon State Chancellery. This deal aims to streamline the utilization of state-governed land for expanding mobile networks. The objective is to harmonize and significantly expedite the approval processes related to infrastructure expansion.

Easy access to government-owned land

"High-performance mobile networks are crucial now more than ever," said Michael Kretschmer, Minister President of the CDU. For some time, the Free State has been providing state-owned land for mobile network expansion through a straightforward, consistent method. Through the agreement with Vantage Towers, the company now has hassle-free access to appropriate land to enhance mobile coverage and increase network capacities.

Martin Dulig, Economy Minister of the SPD, noted that the agreement is based on the Free State's commitment in the mobile pact. It was also agreed there to create a task force to aid in expansion. A comprehensive gigabit infrastructure is a necessary condition for digitalizing all sectors.

New framework replaces old specific contracts

As per the company, the framework agreement replaces the previous individual contracts related to the use of state-owned properties. The new deal consists of standard rental agreements for mobile sites, a unified pricing model, and access to geodata. Most of the land appears to be located in rural areas, making it more accessible for network providers to tap into previously unprofitable sites.

Vantage Towers is a leading antenna operator in Europe, boasting more than 84,000 antenna sites across ten countries.

The Free State's agreement with Vantage Towers has opened up opportunities for the company to expand mobile coverage in rural areas, as these areas often have government-owned land that was previously difficult to access. Under the new framework agreement, Vantage Towers will now have standard rental agreements for mobile sites, a unified pricing model, and access to geodata on these state-owned properties in the Free State.
