A significant number of individuals in Saxony-Anhalt stay single. In 2023, they accounted for the largest share of living arrangements at 44%, as per preliminary results from the 2023 Microcensus reported by the State Statistical Office. This was almost identical to the previous year's figure of 43.9%. Regionally, Halle led with a 55% single population, followed closely by Magdeburg (52%) and Burgenlandkreis (50%).
Approximately one fourth of the population resided with children under one roof (24%). Families were least common in the state's three independent cities - Dessau-Roßlau (20%) and Halle and Magdeburg (both 21%). Conversely, the most families could be found in Börde Landkreis (31%), second only to Jerichower Land (30%).
The Wittenberg district boasts the highest number of childless couples.
31% of the population lived as a couple without children. This ranged from 36% in Landkreis Wittenberg to 25% in Halle. The average household size in the state was 1.9 people.

The District of Wittenberg is known for having the highest number of childless couples. Among the population, 36% live as a couple without children, making it the highest percentage in the region. The average household size in the District of Wittenberg is slightly larger than the state average, at 2 people.
