The state of Sachsen-Anhalt is increasing the number of public prosecutors in response to a rise in cases, more complex investigations, and a growing problem of cybercrime. The Justice Ministry in Magdeburg made this announcement. The number of cases has seen a 6% increase compared to the previous year.

To strengthen the public prosecutor's offices, the admission requirements have been modified. The ministry confirmed that there won't be any budget cuts. They will continue to seek out promising trainee lawyers, as well as experienced lawyers who are interested in working in the public sector.

Specifically, the public prosecutor's offices are due to receive additional personnel this year. Of the 21 new appointments for trainee judges and judges, 17 are scheduled for the public prosecutor's offices.Previously, the majority of new hires were assigned to the courts. In the last year, it was a mere 14 posts, or 44% fewer than planned.

Saxony-Anhalt's public prosecutor's offices are located in Halle (with a branch in Naumburg), Dessau-Roßlau, Stendal, and Magdeburg (with a branch in Halberstadt). The ministry reported that around 600 individuals work in these offices, with about 200 of them being female and male public prosecutors.

In the last two years, Saxony-Anhalt has been conducting a recruitment drive in the justice system due to a severe wave of retirements. Over the next ten years, it is anticipated that over 50% of the existing judges, female judges, public prosecutors, and public prosecutors in the region will retire. To counterbalance this loss, they intend to hire more full-time female and male lawyers each year compared to the past few years.
