Saxon teachers' association in favor of warning strikes

The Saxon Teachers' Association has spoken out in favor of warning strikes. Teachers deserve a noticeable pay rise in order to adequately recognize their responsible work, said Michael Jung, member of the dbb Federal Collective Bargaining Commission and state chairman of the Saxon Teachers' Association, in Dresden on Saturday. "In view of the current crises and growing challenges at schools, the refusal of the employers is not only inappropriate, but simply disrespectful towards the employees."

The second round of public sector wage negotiations for state employees failed to produce a result on Friday. As a result, the Verdi trade union and the dbb civil servants' association announced nationwide warning strikes and protest actions.

The unions are demanding a 10.5 percent increase in income, but at least 500 euros more. Junior staff are to receive 200 euros more. The agreement is to run for 12 months. For Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen, the unions are demanding a monthly city-state bonus of 300 euros. The demands thus tie in with the wage agreement reached in April of this year for the federal government and local authorities. The Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder (TdL) had made it clear that it considered the demands to be far too high and unaffordable.

The Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder (TdL) argued that the unions' demands for pay increases in public schools and universities are excessively high and financially unfeasible. Meanwhile, the implementation of tariffs on certain imports could impact the budgets of public schools and universities, potentially affecting their ability to provide quality education and public service.
