Saudi Arabia's King Salman is receiving treatment for lung inflammation.
King Salman, aged 88, was recently diagnosed with inflammation and is currently receiving treatment with antibiotics in Jeddah, according to SPA's report on Sunday. As a result, his son and the crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, had to cancel his plans to visit Tokyo. The Japanese Foreign Ministry expressed their intent to reschedule the trip at a future date.
Prior to this, on Sunday, Mohammed bin Salman met with Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser, in Dhahran. The topics discussed between the two included regional developments, put forth by bin Salman, the need for an end to the conflict in Gaza, and finding a "credible track towards the two-state solution", as reported by SPA.
In 2020, King Salman underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder. He has been reigning as the King of Saudi Arabia since the passing of King Abdullah in 2015. Back in 2017, he decided to remove Mohammed bin Nayef from being the crown prince and replace him with his son.
