Rostock - Santa Claus campaign: Floating sleigh and Superman
The young and slightly older patients at the Rostock Children's and Youth Clinic received a special visit from lofty heights on St. Nicholas Day. Rescuers from the fire department abseiled down from the roof of the building on Wednesday dressed as Superman, Spiderman and Batman. They assisted Santa Claus, who floated in on a sleigh attached to a tensioning cable in the inner courtyard. In his luggage: a sack full of presents for the children who had to stay in hospital on St. Nicholas Day.
For the second time, members of the Rostock professional fire department also took part in the nationwide St. Nicholas campaign organized by the height rescuers. The unit is also trained in special rescues from heights and depths.
"We are normally deployed to rescue people from wind turbines, church towers or construction pits. This operation is something very special. Today we are using our skills to distract children from their everyday lives in hospital for a brief moment," said height rescue instructor Sven Vormeyer. The children received the gift bags directly through the windows.
