Football: A Popular Sport Worldwide - Sané is certain about his European Championship appearances: "Improving gradually"
Leroy Sané is prepared for the upcoming warm-up match of the German national team ahead of the Euros. "To me, it looks great. I'll definitely play on Friday," stated the attacker of FC Bayern Munich during a press conference in Herzogenaurach on Tuesday. Germany's match against Greece will take place in Mönchengladbach on Friday, followed by a game against Scotland a week later in Munich for the Euros kick-off.
The player has been managing a pelvic injury for several weeks, limiting his training time. "I'm doing superb. I'm following a plan that's improving day by day. It's looking fantastic right now," said the 28-year-old. In addition to his pelvic issue, Sané had to sit out three games in the national team due to a suspension, which kept him from the Germany-Ukraine match (0:0) on Monday in Nuremberg.
Julian Nagelsmann, the national team's coach, expressed his concern over Sané's lack of training time and match fitness. "He needs to train all week and play against Greece. He's been suspended for three games, so he's not in the right rhythm for the national team," said Nagelsmann.
Despite his recent issues, Sané doesn't foresee his removal from the Euros team. "I think it can happen to anyone, even if you're not injured," he mentioned, recalling his unexpected exclusion from the World Cup roster in 2018. Health problems are not a factor in this case. Nagelsmann will have to choose one player from his preliminary squad by June 3. However, Nagelsmann considers Sané as a potential standout player for the significant moments during the Euros, even if he might not be able to play the full 90 minutes in every game.
