The wife of Schleswig-Holstein's former Minister President Peter Harry Carstensen, Sandra Carstensen, will run for the Bundestag next year. Plön's CDU chairman André Jagusch confirmed her candidacy. Carstensen informed the local associations in the Plön/Neumünster constituency. The "Kieler Nachrichten" first reported on the 52-year-old former HR manager's plan, with several other candidates also in the running. A constituency party meeting in Schwentinental on October 17th will decide the matter.
There are instances of spouses or children of prominent politicians pursuing political careers themselves. For example, the wife of former SPD chairman Franz Müntefering, Michelle Müntefering, is a member of the Bundestag. The daughter of former CDU federal politician Wolfgang Bosbach, Caroline Bosbach, also intends to run for the Bundestag.
