Salzburg cut off from the German rail network
Two full closures of train lines in Upper Bavaria will cut Salzburg off from the German rail network for several days in November. As confirmed by Deutsche Bahn, the route between Munich, Rosenheim and Salzburg will be closed from November 23rd to 26th. From November 25 to December 3, the alternative route via Mühldorf am Inn will also be closed.
The passenger association Pro Bahn has criticized the planning of the construction work. "On a freeway, no one would accept a full closure and the detour route also being closed due to construction work," said deputy regional chairman Marco Kragulji on Monday.
Pro Bahn advises against taking the train to Salzburg or Chiemgau on the relevant days in November. This is very bitter in view of the popular Advent markets in Chiemgau. The association also accused Deutsche Bahn of having announced the route closure at too short notice.
In response to an inquiry, DB explained that although it regrets the overlapping of the construction work, it had deliberately decided to bundle the measures. The work could not be "disentangled due to resource constraints and the tight time frames for construction activities".
The closures of the railroad routes in Upper Bavaria, including the one between Munich, Rosenheim, and Salzburg, are set to cause significant traffic disruptions in November. Despite these challenges, the railroad company Deutsche Bahn carries on with its construction work, including an alternative route via Mühldorf am Inn, which will also be closed during certain periods.
