Salvage of the "Verity" briefly continued
Experts are once again working on salvaging the sunken cargo ship "Verity" off Heligoland. "The diving vessel "Vina", the tugboat "Wulf 9" and the multi-purpose vessel "Mellum" arrived back in the wreck area this morning," said a spokeswoman for the Directorate-General for Waterways and Shipping on Wednesday. However, due to a predicted storm, the work will probably be interrupted again for safety reasons.
During the diving work southwest of Helgoland on Wednesday, minor leaks were reportedly discovered. For safety reasons, fuel line closures were checked and closed or sealed.
On October 24, the "Verity" and the freighter "Polesie" collided in the North Sea. The "Verity" sank. The authorities believe that five sailors lost their lives in the accident. Four of them are still missing. Even during a diving operation at the weekend, there was still no trace of them.
Despite the minor leaks discovered during salvage operations, efforts to secure the fuel lines continue to ensure safety during the "Verity" salvage mission. Unfortunately, potential shipping accidents like this one highlight the need for rigorous safety protocols in maritime transportation.
