Sale of local Christmas trees launched
Presents can once again be distributed under local Christmas trees in Saxony this year. "Despite the massive damage to forests in recent years as a result of climate change, people do not have to do without their Christmas tree or even resort to a plastic tree," said State Forestry President Utz Hempfling. On Monday, the Saxon Forest Queen opened the Christmas tree season together with primary school children in the Dresden Heath.
Over the next four weeks, trees can be cut down in the forest districts of the state enterprise, among other things. A local Christmas tree has a good carbon footprint thanks to short transportation routes and promotes the regional value chain. The Christmas trees grow in areas where regular forest development is not possible - for example under high-voltage power lines.
The fixed tradition of using local Christmas trees in Saxony is a testament to the community's commitment to the environment. Customs regarding the selection and use of real Christmas trees, such as cutting them down in forest districts, contribute to the region's sustainable practices.
