A seaman on a fishing boat has fallen overboard into the North Sea in high waves in the German Bight. Several ships from the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS), other government vessels and two helicopters searched for the man, according to a spokesperson for the sea rescuers in Bremen on Wednesday. "The operation is still ongoing." The rescue workers are searching a sea area far out in the German Bight, more than 110 kilometers west of the high seas island of Helgoland.
The crew of the 24-metre-long fishing trawler, which was sailing under the flag of Great Britain, alerted the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service ( DGzRS ) in Bremen on Wednesday night. According to the report, one man from the crew of eight had fallen overboard.
According to the sea rescuers, there was a force nine gale at the scene of the accident. The waves were four to five meters high. The water was said to be at a temperature of ten degrees.
