The 37th edition of Germany's largest nature conservation event, the German Nature Conservation Day (DNT), is happening from September 24th to 28th in Saarbrücken. Based on details shared by Environment Minister Petra Berg (SPD), around 100 notable speakers and around 600 to 800 visitors are anticipated at this gathering. The key theme for this year will be fostering European connections in the realm of nature conservation. As per Berg's remarks to journalists on Tuesday, Saarland is the perfect venue due to its identity as a border country in the heart of Europe. "Cross-border cooperation is vital in the face of growing climate challenges," remarked Berg.

Berg felt delight and pride over bringing the event back to Saarland after years of absence, which also presents a chance to showcase Saarland's nature preservation themes and ideas on a national stage.

Saarland's cultural landscape is rich with historical attributes, mostly influenced by mining and steel industries. The area boasts a variety of protected sites and diverse habitat types that host numerous species of plants and animals. Additionally, thanks to its geographical position, many cross-border projects have been initiated with nearby Luxembourg and France, providing a glimpse into nature conservation practices across neighboring nations.

The guests can look forward to a diverse array of activities at the 37th German Nature Conservation Day, featuring expert presentations, a dynamic exhibition, and constant conversations with professionals. There are also six excursions planned—for instance, to the Biosphere Reserve Bliesgau, to the nature preservation initiatives of Hammelsberg and Moselaue, to the "Urforest at the city's gates," and to the National Park Hunsrück. At the "Saarbrücken Declaration," attendees can express their desires and suggestions.
