Forestry - Saar Environment Minister reports on the state of the forest
Environment Minister Petra Berg (SPD) will report on the state of the state forest in Saarland today (11.30 a.m.). The vitality of the trees has been increasingly weakened by the dry periods of recent summers, the ministry announced in Saarbrücken. In the Forest Condition Report 2022, 37 percent of trees - across all species - showed significant damage. Only around one in five trees had no recognizable damage.
According to preliminary data from the German Weather Service (DWD), Saarland was the second warmest federal state in the summer of 2023 with an average of 19.4 degrees. June was the second warmest and sunniest June since measurements began. July and August saw comparatively heavy rainfall. According to the DWD, summers in Germany have been too warm for 27 years.
