Railroad - S-Bahn and regional trains in Berlin severely affected

People in Berlin must be prepared for considerable disruptions to S-Bahn and regional services from (today) Thursday due to the warning strike by the train drivers' union GDL. The strike begins on Thursday evening at 22:00. However, the S-Bahn emphasized: "Please also expect restrictions before and after the strike." The disruptions will affect S-Bahn, regional and long-distance rail services until Friday evening. It is likely to be particularly difficult for rail customers to get to and from work on Friday morning and evening.

The S-Bahn called on passengers in Berlin to use subway trains, streetcars and buses. The Berlin transport company BVG is not affected. However, not all S-Bahn routes from the outskirts of the city to the city center and certainly not the regional train connections from the surrounding areas can be replaced by subway trains. If many commuters switch to cars, there will be even more congestion than usual.

The train drivers' union GDL has called on its members to take part in the nationwide warning strike on the railways. From Thursday evening at 10 p.m. until Friday evening at 10 p.m., a large part of rail traffic is likely to be disrupted as a result.

The last time the GDL struck at Deutsche Bahn was on November 15 and 16. During this 20-hour work stoppage, a good 80 percent of the scheduled long-distance journeys were canceled. The impact on regional transport was even more pronounced in some federal states, with virtually no trains and hardly any S-Bahn trains running in some regions at times.
