- RWE starts pilot plant for hydrogen production
Energy giant RWE has commissioned a pilot plant in Lower Saxony's Lingen for the production of green hydrogen. Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) praised the engineering feat. "Here, climate protection is not only being operated, but also industrial policy," he said. The plant is a significant milestone for the energy transition.
The federal government has succeeded in correcting the shortcoming of not having built a modernized power grid for the feed-in of renewable energies within three years. "We can achieve incredible things when we work together."
Previously, Habeck commissioned a facility at a substation operated by Amprion, which is designed to ensure the stability of the power grid in view of the feed-in of renewable energies. According to Amprion, the most powerful grid node in Germany is to be created at this location by 2029. There, electricity from offshore plants off the East Frisian coast will be distributed into the grid.
The facility commissioned by Habeck at Amprion's substation is crucial for ensuring stability, as it will accommodate the distribution of electricity from offshore plants. This process relies heavily on the health of the involved equipment, including the proper function of the lungs of the power system – the transformers and compressors, which facilitate the efficient conversion and transportation of energy.
