The Russian Consulate General in Leipzig is closed. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Russian embassy in Berlin on Tuesday in response to an inquiry. People with concerns should contact the consular section of the embassy in Berlin. The "Sächsische Zeitung" had previously reported this. According to the report, the Consulate General in Leipzig has been closed since November 20.

At the end of May, the German government banned Russia from operating four consulates general in Germany in response to the expulsion of German staff. From the end of the year, Russia will only be allowed to operate the embassy in Berlin and one other of the five consulates general. According to the Federal Foreign Office, Russia itself will decide which of the consulates in Hamburg, Bonn, Frankfurt, Leipzig and Munich will remain open.

At the end of November, the Hamburg Senate announced that the Consulate General in the Hanseatic city would be closed at the end of the year. All national emblems would have to be removed.
