Rhine-Neckar district - Runaway horses keep rescue teams on their toes

Two runaway horses kept a large contingent of rescue workers on their toes well into the night on Monday. Initially, a road user reported the animals on a district road near Sinsheim (Rhine-Neckar district) on Sunday evening, as the police announced on Monday. However, when a patrol arrived, there was no sign of the horses. The animals were subsequently spotted several times, but could not be caught.

It later transpired that the horses had escaped from a 70-year-old man and were already being searched for by a drone unit from the fire department. According to the police, the horses approached the Autobahn 6 at around midnight and the officers called in a helicopter for aerial assistance due to the potential danger to road traffic. The highway police were also on standby for a short-term closure.

Two hours later, one of the animals was spotted near the highway and sedated by a veterinarian. According to the police, both horses were eventually caught and handed over to their owners unharmed. According to the information provided, there was no danger to traffic at any time.
