Round table on the situation at FSG and Nobiskrug shipyards

The state government, IG Metall trade union and financial investor Lars Windhorst met at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Kiel on Monday to discuss the situation at the FSG and Nobiskrug shipyards. The round table was initiated by the trade union. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the meeting will be attended by department head Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) and the federal government's coordinator for maritime economy and tourism, Dieter Janecek.

In the run-up to the meeting, the managing director of IG Metall Rendsburg, Martin Bitter, emphasized that "there are problems, we can't discuss them away". In mid-October, Windhorst had confirmed a positive future for the shipyards despite the difficult situation.

In recent months, the shipyards had made negative headlines due to late payment of salaries, for example. Windhorst was personally criticized for his behaviour and lack of communication. It was also criticized that there was no longer a managing director on site.

During the discussion, the importance of addressing the issues at FSG and Nobiskrug shipyards, where shipbuilding takes place, was highlighted by IG Metall trade union. Subsequently, it was proposed by trade unions that better cooperation between the state government, IG Metall, and financial investor Lars Windhorst could lead to improvements in the shipbuilding sector, potentially aiding in the resolution of ongoing problems.
