The Rostock Seawolves will start their next season in the Basketball Bundesliga with the new head coach, Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz. The club announced this news on Wednesday. This 45-year-old Polish man replaces Christian Held, signing a one-year deal with the Mecklenburgers, which can be extended to summer 2026.
Frasunkiewicz began his coaching career as a professional player. He played over 500 games in the top Polish league and was a part of the Polish national team from 2004 to 2008. In 2016, he started coaching the top-tier club, Asseco Gdynia. Then, at the beginning of 2021, he switched to Anwil Wloclawek. During the 2022/2023 season, he won the Fiba Europe Cup with his new team.
Jens Hakanowitz, sports director, said about the signing, "He has made a name for himself in Poland as a coach known for strong defense and is now eager to showcase his skills in the Bundesliga." Frasunkiewicz emphasized the type of gameplay the fans of the newly formed Seawolves team can expect to see under him: "Defense is the key to success. It is fundamental to my basketball philosophy."
