Bundesliga 2 - Rostock parts ways with Schwartz: "at risk of transfer"

Hansa Rostock are continuing their mission to avoid relegation without coach Alois Schwartz. The second division soccer club announced the separation at a press conference on Wednesday. The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported. "We have come to the decision that we want to start the second half of the season with a new coaching team," said Hansa's CEO Robert Marien.

Rostock recently lost 2-0 to FC Schalke 04 and slipped to the relegation zone. "A table is always a report card," said Marien. "It has to be said that we are in danger of being relegated at the moment. We have to work on that."

Schwartz joined FC Hansa at the end of March 2023 as the third coach of the 2022/23 season. Schwartz stabilized Rostock and led the Hanseatic team to a secure 13th place in the table with 41 points. However, after securing their place in the league, there has been a lack of success in the current season. The Mecklenburg club have only picked up one point in their last three games. "Of course he's disappointed," said Marien about Schwartz.

Junior sporting director Uwe Speidel will initially take over responsibility for the professionals. The 52-year-old has been with the Hanseatic club since January 1, 2021. Speidel was previously assistant coach under Andries Jonker at VfL Wolfsburg. On his first day as Rostock's interim coach, Speidel wanted to "give the lads time to get to grips with the situation today". On Friday (18:30/Sky), the Hanseatic team will face SC Paderborn.
