Rostock city council discusses proposals for new theater building
On Wednesday, the Rostock City Parliament will once again decide on the basic support for the new Volkstheater building, which will cost around 208 million euros. The Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, Linkspartei and Rostocker Bund parliamentary groups are putting a motion to the vote to renew the decision in principle. The SPD also supported the motion. The CDU, on the other hand, wants to bring about a referendum in view of the costs of the project and use the date of the European elections on June 9, 2024 to do so. A motion has also been submitted for a vote. The city parliament has already spoken out in favor of the new building several times, and Lord Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger (Left Party) also supports the project. The parliamentary session begins at 4.00 pm.
The new Volkstheater building proposal is a significant concern for various municipalities in Rostock, as they may be responsible for funding or supporting the project. The municipalities surrounding Rostock might also be interested in hosting similar theater structures, considering the success and cultural impact of a new theater in the city.
