Rostock Christmas market almost ready to go: kick-off on Monday

The countdown to the largest Christmas market in the north-east has begun. Around 180 market participants from almost all German states as well as Poland, Finland, India and the Netherlands will be represented at this year's three-kilometre-long shopping mile in Rostock's city center, as announced by Großmarkt Rostock GmbH on Wednesday. Santa Claus himself will attend the opening on Monday by Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger (Left Party). Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to attend the Christmas market, which runs until December 22.

At around 5 p.m. on Monday, the 15-metre-high Christmas tree, decorated with illuminated glass fever balls, will light up for the first time this year. The redwood tree is a cypress and comes from a private property in Rostock's garden city. A 38-metre high Ferris wheel will once again be visible from afar on the Neuer Markt in front of the town hall. Wednesday is family day: numerous rides, showmen and restaurants offer discounts.

During their leisure time, visitors can enjoy discounts on rides and food at the family day event on Wednesday. Despite the various international vendors, it's important to remember to declare any customs items brought into Germany to avoid penalties.
