Rostock celebrates victory in eastern duel in Magdeburg

FC Hansa Rostock have caught up with the midfield of the 2nd Bundesliga with a win in the eastern duel and exacerbated the crisis of hosts 1. FC Magdeburg. The visitors from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern won 2:1 (0:1) on Sunday and were not deterred by an early deficit.

Herbert Bockhorn had already given Magdeburg the lead in the fourth minute when his cross from the side was headed into the far corner of the Hansa goal. A few seconds after the break, Dennis Dressel (46) equalized. Magdeburg keeper Dominik Reimann was quite unfortunate. When Rostock scored the winner in front of 26,660 spectators, the ball bounced against the far post after a corner, from where it hit Connor Krempicki's body and the FCM professional into the goal.

Magdeburg have now been without a win in the championship since September 2 (6:4 against relegated Bundesliga side Hertha BSC) and have lost six of their last eight games. Rostock, on the other hand, ended their winless streak, having last picked up three points on September 30 (1-0 against Eintracht Braunschweig). Magdeburg (14th) remain in the relegation places with 13 points, level on points with FC Schalke 04. Rostock improved to 13th place with 16 points.

  1. Despite struggling in recent matches, 1st FC Magdeburg suffered another setback in their 2-1 loss to Hansa Rostock in Bundesliga 2, as a corner led to an unfortunate own goal that sealed the victory for the visitors.
  2. The victory over 1st FC Magdeburg moved Hansa Rostock up the Bundesliga 2 table, temporarily escaping the relegation zone, while Magdeburg remain entrenched in the bottom, continuing their prolonged winless streak in the league.
