Rostock basketball team defeats champions UIm 107:89

The Rostock Seawolves had lost all five away games in this BBL season before the game in Ulm. Another defeat at the champions would not have been a surprise. But things turned out differently.

Basketball Bundesliga - Rostock basketball team defeats champions UIm 107:89

The Rostock Seawolves have caused a major surprise in the German Basketball League. Head Coach Christian Feld's team, which had previously been winless in five away games, recorded a 107:89 (55:52) victory at champions and league leaders Ratiopharm Ulm on Sunday. The team thus recorded its highest win of the season overall after regular time. The Mecklenburg club's best scorer was Derrick Alston with 24 points.

Despite their underdog role, the Seawolves were committed from the outset and caused Ulm major problems. Rostock was in the lead throughout the first quarter and even opened up a twelve-point lead at one stage. The second period then turned into a basket festival in which Ulm was the more effective team for a long time and briefly swapped the chasing role with the visitors around two minutes before the break.

However, it was not the champions, but the Seawolves who again dominated proceedings on court and pulled 84:66 ahead in the third quarter. In the final period, Held's team then succeeded in keeping Ulm well at bay and completing the surprising victory.
