Soccer - Rose strengthens Blaswich and sees no Gulacsi farewell
RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose has expressed his confidence in goalkeeper Janis Blaswich after his recent slip-ups. "If you perform as consistently as Janis over the course of a year, then I can't see that we need to worry about anything," said the 47-year-old.
Blaswich, who was called up to the national team for the first time in November, had conceded a goal in both Wolfsburg and Dortmund due to two mistakes. While Leipzig lost in Wolfsburg, the mistake in the 3-2 defeat at BVB had no consequences. Blaswich also showed signs of insecurity against Heidenheim.
In the Champions League against Young Boys Bern on Wednesday (18:45/DAZN), the 32-year-old will nevertheless have to make way for the goal. Rose keeps his promise and gives Peter Gulacsi match practice. The 33-year-old tore his cruciate ligament in October 2022 and had been captain and undisputed key player until then.
The Hungarian international goalkeeper is aiming to play at the European Championships in Germany. To do so, he needs match practice, which he will probably not get in Leipzig. Nevertheless, Rose expects the veteran to remain in Leipzig for the second half of the season. "There are no signs at all that Pete is in any way thinking about doing something new," said the coach. "Unfortunately, we can't make any headlines."
According to Rose,Gulacsi is feeling fine and was injured for a long time. So far this season, he has only played away from home in the cup. The game against Bern will be his first home game since the injury he sustained in the Premier League against Celtic Glasgow through no fault of his own.
Against Bern, there will be more than just goalkeeping rotations. "We will bring in a lot of fresh personnel," announced Rose. "Many have earned it because we are close to each other in terms of performance level."
Specifically, Christopher Lenz is likely to be deployed at left-back, giving national team player David Raum a breather. In attacking midfield, Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho is hoping for a start. Rose could deploy veteran Kevin Kampl in central midfield, while Nicolas Seiwald will definitely play alongside him.
