During a nighttime thunderstorm, a two-family house in Ludwigshafen, in the Pfalz region, caught fire. The fire started in the attic, police reported. Firefighters managed to control the blaze. A lightning strike is not ruled out, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The five residents of the house escaped unharmed and were taken in by relatives. The estimated damage is up to 100,000 euros.

Firefighters extinguished the flames that had engulfed the attic of the house. The intense heat from the fire could be seen and felt even from a distance.
