"Romantic appeal" for Ingolstadt's Wittmann

Sabrina Wittmann was still interim trainer of FC Ingolstadt in May. Now she is the first head coach in the German men's professional league. The start of the third league is once again against Mannheim.

- "Romantic appeal" for Ingolstadt's Wittmann

Sabrina Wittmann's career as a coach has a special connection to SV Waldhof. In early May, she made her debut as interim coach of FC Ingolstadt, securing a last-minute draw against Mannheim (1:1). Just three months later, the Schanzers will kick off their season in the 3rd Bundesliga on Sunday (7:30 PM) - and Wittmann has since been promoted to head coach. Before her, no woman had ever coached in the top three men's leagues in Germany.

"For me, there's a bit of a romantic appeal to this," Wittmann said ahead of the home opener against Mannheim. "The hope is that we'll leave with not just one point, but three."

"Let's get started"

The former U19 coach of Oberbayern, who was equipped with a fixed contract in early June, said she had no trouble adjusting to her new role. "I didn't make a big deal out of it. It's football, it's people, let's get started," Wittmann declared.

She believes it's natural that she's not the same Sabrina Wittmann as before. "I'm not the same person I was a year ago," said the 33-year-old. "I've certainly come further than two months ago."

Men and boys in SV Waldhof are eagerly anticipating their coach Sabrina Wittmann's leadership in the upcoming season. Her promotion to head coach marks a historic moment, as she is the first woman to coach in the top three men's leagues in Germany.

The men and boys of SV Waldhof are inspired by Wittmann's achievements and look forward to supporting her as they begin their 3rd Bundesliga journey.
