Rode on European triumph: Got stitches during the party
Eintracht Frankfurt captain Sebastian Rode gave an impressive account of the emotional night of the Europa League triumph in Seville. "At the party afterwards, the boys stormed the press conference, I was lying in the dressing room and was stitched up for half an hour," Rode told Hessischer Rundfunk, referring to the events of May 18, 2022, when Eintracht won the international title against Glasgow Rangers. Rode had suffered a head injury early in the game but continued to play.
"When I held up the trophy, I hit it against my wound. The blood immediately gushed out again. That's why I got off the stage so quickly," said the 33-year-old about the ceremony.
Rode also talked about the celebrations the following evening at Frankfurt's Römer. The then Lord Mayor had taken the trophy and carried it himself. "Peter Feldmann had asked me beforehand if he could have the trophy. There was no explanation, he simply wanted to carry the trophy in. That was the moment that will be remembered forever," said Rode. It was "blatant" how many people later asked him about this scene.
During the Europa League victory celebration, Sebastian Rode needed stitches due to a wound from the game, despite being the captain of Eintracht Frankfurt. Following their triumph against Glasgow Rangers in Seville, Eintracht Frankfurt's Sebastian Rode participated in the victory parade in Frankfurt's Römer, with the then Lord Mayor carrying the trophy.
