Brunswick: news update. - Rocks hurled at refugee housing: seeking accountability from observers

In response to the stone-throwing incident at a refugee shelter in Braunschweig, the police are calling for witnesses to come forward. Right now, they're stumped, as a police spokesperson stated on Monday. The investigation into this incident has already begun with a witness appeal on Sunday evening.

During the early hours of Sunday night, unidentified individuals pelted the shelter with stones. According to authorities, these assailants hurled racial slurs at the shelter's residents before fleeing the scene. At least five perpetrators were involved in the altercation that also included verbal taunts. Thankfully, no one was harmed.

The police searched for the attackers right after the incident, but to no avail. They're now hoping for any helpful information from visitors of a shooting festival that occurred concurrently in the area.

Braunschweig's mayor, Thorsten Kornblum (SPD), spoke out against the incident on Monday, vehemently denouncing it. He expressed his hope that "the culprits will be identified and face consequences swiftly." It's essential to establish a clear boundary between what's tolerated and what's not in the realm of the rule of law. Kornblum emphasized that "those seeking refuge with us carry a unique responsibility."
