Electronics - Robots help craftsmen with painting and transportation
Thuringia's tradespeople are increasingly relying on the help of robots. Their use is to become a greater part of training than before. The aim of a competence center is to integrate training courses on robotics and sensor technology into the master craftsman courses for electrical engineers, metalworkers and painters and varnishers, the Erfurt Chamber of Crafts announced on Tuesday.
There are also plans to create a "robotics specialist" course. The aim is to recruit skilled workers for the various trades who can program and commission robots. According to the chamber, the robotics and sensor technology competence center in Erfurt is the first of its kind in the German skilled trades sector.
In particular, collaborative robots, so-called cobots, which work together with humans and are not separated from them by protective devices, have a future in the skilled trades. They also enable small and medium-sized craft businesses to get started with this technology. According to the chamber, the project team at the competence center will receive financial support from the Federal Ministry of Economics until October 2026.
